Re: can't install game. help
If you have a failed PC install, you can do the following to reset your PC back to a state where it no longer thinks the game is installed.
This only works for Retail-PC customers (if you purchased your copy from an online distributor and downloaded your software, this does not apply to you.)
Please, PLEASE note, you'll need to edit the registry and if you're not careful, you can really do some damage to your PC. Do this at your own risk!
Launch the registry editor and browse to the following location:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products
Once there, search for "borderlands" (make sure 'data' is checked in the search box.) When it is found, take a look at the status bar across the bottom of Registry Editor, and make sure that it shows you a path that looks something like this:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\xxx
...where 'xxx' is a long alphanumeric value. Locate that long alpha-numeric key from within the navigation pane on the left, and delete it (right-click, 'Delete'.)
You have one other step you need to perform in the registry:
*** 64-bit Users: locate and delete the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{52B65911-1559-4ED5-9461-46957FDD48CD}
*** 32-bit Users: locate and delete the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{52B65911-1559-4ED5-9461-46957FDD48CD}
Finally, browse to your "C:\Program Files" folder and delete the "2K Games" folder (64-bit users note that this is in "C:\Program Files (x86)")
You should now be able to re-install.
