Hey all, I was just wondering if Gearbox would be likely to make a new expansion for Valve at any time. Or if Valve wanted to add Adrian Shephard to the new Half-Life games, would you guys allow them. I'm not too keen on the rights to the character so excuse the idiocy if there is any.
I've always been curious about that because I think it'd be cool if Valve could use him in upcoming games since the G-man did abduct him like Gordon. Perhaps an expansion where you fight in the fabled 7 hour war, the goal could be to keep people like Eli and so on alive. Or maybe since the rebels now know where the Combine home world is, Shephard could be sent to chew alien bubble gum and kick ass. Opposing Force was one of the coolest expansions for Half-Life, especially the Dark Ops Ninjas. I don't expect anything to happen or someone to really answer my question. But I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask either. |

There is some suspicion that one of Gearbox's unannounced projects is for Valve.
I don't know if Valve would reuse him as a character though. They didn't make Opposing Force, but they gave Gearbox a rough idea of the story, so it's unclear who actually created the character. |

Sorry for the delay...
Anyways, I just heard a rumor that Gordon Freeman wasn't going to be in the future Half-Life games, so was hoping that might be because they'd bring back Shepherd. All in all, I do hope GBX does something else for Valve. Opposing Force was just too awesome. Thanks for the reply |

That's what I was thinking. And as for the objection of getting rid of Gordon. It may be for the best. The character has been through a lot already and soon the story taps for him will be as dry as a bone.
I'd love to see the series continue, but it might be nice to let Mr. Freeman settle down with Alyx or something along those lines. There are plenty of other voiceless heroes who could continue the story of the war against the combine. Shepherd just happens to be one of them. It would allow for different NPC characters, a new story, and etc... The only thing that would remain would be the G-Man. And as we know, the G-man is loosing grip on Gordon, so it's only fitting he'd use another floating gun do his dirty work. Now those are only my opinions. I know Valve will do a fantastic job with the series as they always have.... I just hope they don't continue to take forever. Episodic content would release faster my ass! |
