Over the two-year suspense (for myself, at least) that came from Borderlands, something struck me... what would be the best game to ever be created? While I obviously knew that Borderlands wouldn't be it - as it does have certain limiting factors, such as a level cap and non-random terrain - I did realize that it would surely be different for every subcategory of "gamer" (for example, hardcore FPS, hardcore RPG, MMOer, Puzzler, Casual gamer, and other classifications).
And so, out of curiosity, I was wondering what game elements are most important to the gamers on this forum (peremptorily FPSers, excluding the "Samba de Amigo" guys). For example, here would be my most important elements: First-Person Perspective (merely a preference) Character Progression (in terms of RPG stats, unlockables, and/or emotional/story development) Co-op Campaign integration with persistent characters (Hey, single-player gets lonely) Randomization (To keep the game fresh, and altogether add variety) Platformer elements (Always been a fan of platformers) SDK, or another form of mod support (as an alternative or addition to randomization) Intelligent AI (They don't have to be omnipotent, but they should act realistically) Procedural, infinite map generation with the possibility for manipulation (To emphasize randomization, provide the knowledge that your in-game actions have some permanent effects, and eliminate the "invisible wall/player in a crater" issue) Combat where literally anything is a weapon (Many games claim it, but none have truly delivered) In-Game Map and "Fast Travel" System (Just so I know where the hell I am and where I'm going). Three Dimensions (Damnit, I don't want MapleStory or Contra! A shooter-rpg-platformer damn well deserves the Z-Axis!) Limitless - but organizable - Inventory (Because who wants to drop an awesome gun for a gun that is just as awesome, but in another way?) Professions for gun-smithing, armor-smithing, etc. (to emphasize the effects of player action, and not have the entire game lean solely on randomization) And lastly, though surely not least... An infinite, open world - this, coupled with the randomization effects above, would provide for a damn good exploratory game. ----------------------------------------------- As you can tell from my list, my game is - at least in this current stage in development capabilities - utterly impossible. I'd like to ask of you as to what your favorite game's shining qualities would be, and why? What genre of game would it be? What would be its primary features? |

I like when I shoot enemies and blood comes out -- I guess that falls into "Character Progression"

FPS would have to be my favorite, second would I guess be RPG. But I have grown fond of strategy games. One of my favorite games is Civilization IV. Love the Civ series in general too. Nothing quite like taking over the world.

I don't really have a favorite game. The closest to a favourites I guess is like, sim city, postal 2 or a link to the past, but since I like so many games, these three might aswell be random picks. I don't know, I guess games are a bit like movies. They can fail at doing one thing, but make up for it in another area.

I would have to agree. It is one of the very few games that IGN has given 10/10 (http://ign64.ign.com/articles/150/150437p1.html).
