I play Roland as an actual soldier using shotguns, assault rifles, and rocket launchers and I don't see anything game-breaking about it.

if you have seen me around the forums at all, then you know Roland bashing/Lilith envy ...it is my longest running rant/joke. Roland is not that bad, he just isnt that good. He is like a pair of Sears or J.C. Penny shoes. Not horrible, just not known for quality. |

If Gearbox nerfed SMG's, it would be the end of Sirens.

I don't know what the hell any of you are talking about. Every launcher I've used has great splash damage, and does a lot of damage to boot.
I have only 2 qualms: 1) Some surfaces don't register a collision with the rocket, and the rocket will pass through it. 2) I can only carry 96 rockets. My Blaster/Tank brick has used nothing but rockets and shotguns from the start of the game, and I've never had an issue with dealing damage. On larger targets, like Bruisers, I can aim straight for them and make contact, but on smaller targets that often doesn't work. I aim at the ground in front, behind, to the side... just somewhere near them. Damage is huge... my 1468 damage launcher does upwards of 2500 with each shot. Blast radius is more than satisfactory. Master Blaster turns any rocket launcher in to a burst launcher. Many explosions. Everything dies, except spider ants and Lance (with non-corrosive launchers). I only have 21 proficiency in Launchers at 50, and they're still devastating. I haven't quite figured out why so many are having issues. Even on my Hunter I've an extra launcher in my 4th slot that I use for some situations, and the damage is satisfactory. I have dropped 6 skags in a single shot, in response to a statement above.

Ok, first of all, Launchers have absolutely no collision detection. The enemy can be 5 damn feet in front of me and I'll aim right at his torso w/ a 96 accuracy Launcher and the rocket will stream through his torso, and not explode until it hits whatever non enemy is behind him.
Knowing this I obviously spend alot of time aiming at the ground around enemies. What I've noticed is that if I overshoot the ground in front or immiediately next to the enemies by even ~1 ft. then they will take no damage whatsoever despite the rocket supposedly blowing up one foot behind them. I've got a Brick/Mordecai/Lilith/Roland all around level ~35. Obviously I've used all sorts of weaponry. My question is, what exactly was the intent of making it super easy for a 400-500 damage Revolver to one or 2 shot enemies, or a 100-200 dmg Double Anarchy/Hellfire SMG to rip apart dudes in under a second, while a rocket launcher w/ 850-950 damage requires 2-3 slow as **** shots as well as extremely unintuitive knowledge of some abstract and half-assed collision detection system to even have a hope of taking down one Crimson Lance? |
