Basically: if you want to train a gun skill, only use that gun, and only kill stuff at your level. It's the XP you get that counts, not the number of enemies.

Eridian Promontory (P2.5) with a Liquid Orion boosted my sniper rifle skill from 15 to 42ish in a period of about an hour and a half.

Unfortunately, I don't know where the best place to go for combat rifles is, or I'd have already gone there myself. Fastness needs corrosive, promontory needs electric... I might try out krom's lair at some point for lots of non-super armored bandits to play with with my CRs.

After probably a day /played of farming, I found a purple-quality Hyperion cobra at L48... but still only 238 damage. Got a bunch of torques and bloody unforgivens and volcanoes and other garbage in the meantime, but only fairly few "useful" combat rifles.

I also got a yellow-quality Torgue Bastard at 287 damage, with 69 accuracy and 7 rof, but not really worth what you give up to equip it, especially as it has such a crappy iron-sights model and no type of scope.

mainly New Haven farming and a little bit of Crimson Fastness singleplayer and co-op. I do it while I'm watching sporting events usually. Found that during the Flyers game last night. Compass has a very similar one also, that's very good. the AR390, I wonder if there is a AR690
