That there just aren't enough enemies and way too much open space...in the original and dlc's?
It just seems like there's room for a lot more action in the game and that it would be great to see mob numbers like in the underdome dlc. As an example, it seems like in Knoxx, you're only ever fighting 2-5 guys at once and they're not really a challenge. Last edited by X-Nemesis; March 13th, 2010 at 07:39 AM. |

You can always crank up the difficulty with the little program here:
http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com...ad.php?t=89118 Makes more and tougher enemies spawn because the game will think there are up to 4 players and a nice side effect is that tougher enemies drop better loot. File linked in the first post, near the bottom. |

I agree, I think the density is too low. Too much running/driving and not enough action. Zombie Island went in the right direction but Knoxx went completely in the wrong direction in this aspect.

Oh, what the hell.

I too feel that some swarm of weak enemies would have been great.
Like a proper crimson lance roadblock with tons of weak soldier.

Its rare for me to feel overwhelmed in this game in most of the content unless I deliberately move through a few spawn zones to get them all going. And since I usually play the hunter or soldier, my bird can kill most of a crowd for me instantly and the turret can pull aggro while I back up and get behind some thing to throw grenades.
It would give the game a different feel to be in areas where there were TOO many weak foes. Like when you head to Tannis' camp and have all those spiders popping up, though they all seem to have their own zones so as long as you don't move you don't spawn them all at once and even if you do, they spawn in waves. There's another area by one of the zone cannons where you have 2 places large numbers of spiders spawn in waves as well. This leads to a interesting DLC idea where Pandora turns against our heroes (and every one else on the planet) and sends the native wild life into a frenzy. Just imagine being inside one of the towns or bases and have 2 or 3 Rakk Hives assaulting it while Rakks dive bomb the towns folk. Groups of Skags roam the roads so you either have to blast them or drive through them (which is trouble as there's too many and your car will explode before you get through them all). This sort of thing leads to a different style of game play and offers up some thing else new, NPCs on your side that actually do some thing other then stand there. Walk around New Haven now and you'll hear one guy asking about his gun and another talking about some guy getting killed by rakk or skags or some thing. Now imagine standing in the middle of New haven with a hoard of Scythid flooding in from all sides and those same NPCs pulling weapons and trying to defend themselves. Remember the fun in the zombie DLC of turning on the turrets and watching them mow down the zombies? And then you NEVER saw them do it again? Well now the town could constantly be under assault by the undead. In the past your pistol skills might have been great but with so many small foes, area effect weapons are going to be needed. You'll be going through grenades too fast to rely on them and your favorite Siren is going to have a hard time because when she uses her power, she can't jump, so you'll pop back into our world still surrounded. Having hoards of powerful foes might be a pain depending on what they are. Early in the game you take on Scar who usually has one or 2 skags with him, Bone Head who has 3 or 4 guys with guns with him, or even Nine-Toes who has his two pet skags if you don't kill him quick enough. These aren't that big a deal but remember when you fought Knoxx and had 2 other foes keep spawning? Imagine if there had been 6 spawning instead, all more powerful ones. On a team that's not so bad or even solo with the soldier its ok. Here's an idea, go fight with Knoxx and just shot him, ignore every one else. The spawns are timed to his health level. Wait until he's almost dead and then turn to fight every one else. You'll have 2-4 Devastators, 2-4 Lance Medics, that big red Devastator AND Knoxx all shooting you at the same time. Wait a couple seconds for the medics to get Knoxx back to full health and have at them! |

I didn't think it was too sparse when I first started playing and had no clue, so to speak. But with familiarity from replaying multiple times etc. yeah, it does start to feel too empty.
Then again, I don't want it to be too populated either, because not all of us are awesome mob killers no matter how long we play. A single-player only option similar to Diablo2/LOD's "playersX" would be nice, perhaps.

Developers of all games need to realize that the players should be given control of difficulty. Some players want a game to be difficult, and others want a cake walk. Some players, like me, would like different difficulty depending on the hour of the day. Mornings are great for easy games, but by about 10 am I want something more challenging. Must have something to do with caffine levels. A slider that allows us to adapt the game to our needs would be great. I fully endorse a density slider.

I like the open space, there's an entire planet so it's not going to be shoulder to shoulder enemies over it's entire surface.
