Default Aliens FPS Status Report

Aliens FPS Status Report
Game News | 8/18/2007 | 3:03 PST - David Shipley

Gearbox Associate Producer Charlie Wiederhold released a status report about the upcoming Aliens FPS on his personal game site, Gaming is Stupid. He talks about their development team, mostly, but he also says the game's shaping out to be a "totally kick-ass Aliens experience."
"We’re still growing the Aliens team here at Gearbox, and one of the main things we’re looking for right now are level designers. We’ve got a few slots set aside specifically for first timers or guys who have only been in the industry a short time. A good chunk of this team got started in the gaming community, so it’s cool to be able to have stuff targeted at helping get someone’s foot in the door.

"The design team is made up of 80% guys who have 10+ years of first person shooter experience (and it shows in their work) and 20% who are newer but already match the other guys in quality of work and know-how. You’d be working with and learning directly from these guys.

"We’re also looking for experienced designers as well, but this message is reaching out to those who might be looking for a chance to prove themselves. Even if you live outside the US, we’ll listen. If you are interested… leave a comment or send an email to me (charliew, hopefully you can figure out the rest) and I’ll get you in touch with the people who setup the reviews / interviews, or go to the Gearbox HR page and contact us that way.

"Even if you aren’t sure whether you’d be considered or not, doesn’t hurt to try. Awesome work will always trump anything a help wanted page has to say. On a personal level… I was turned down twice before I finally got everything figured out and was accepted to my first 'real' industry job, so you’ve got to try!

"Feel free to pass this along.

"Oh, and yes… the game is shaping up to be a totally kickass Aliens experience.

"Oh, and second yes… the game is going to ship in a reasonable time frame. "
Work at Gearbox? Right! Almost as bad as working for IGN on a contract basis. Man, clearly, the corporation is what made that funny Shipley kid into the freak of nature we see today. Think twice and tread lightly before walking down this weary road, and join Gearbox today.

Game News | 8/18/2007 | 3:02 PST - David Shipley

Gearbox sent out a formal press release today. They're looking for new talent to work on their "upcoming titles for next generation consoles, Windows PC, and the Nintendo DS." Which most definitely includes the Aliens FPS. Open positions include...

Gameplay Programmer
Level Designer (experience required)
3D Artist
Concept Artist
High-Resolution Texture Artist

Tell me. Why is a computer game company still hiring people? I thought robots are everything by now. Or maybe as long as robots are still out-performed by a man with hands (so I've heard), you still got a chance; grab it while you can.

Well that lets us know a whole lot of nothing...why can't they just give us some basic details? What's the core story? What time period in the series (aliens or alien resurrection)? Any new story or mythology elements to expan on the alien series? They can give us info without ruining things. It's annoying not knowing anything.

Is it officially based on the second movie? the same time period? Or what?

They could call it aliens and still base it in the post resurrection universe, like the new dark horse books...

To let you know, none of that information was intended as a status report from Gearbox about the game itself. It was all about hiring talented people to join us. Glad it's being seen though, hopefully someone with interest will see them and give it a shot.

We're all eager to start talking about it as well, but it's not time yet. Don't worry, Sega and Gearbox will have you covered when it's an appropriate time to start spilling the beans. Still too soon though, sorry!

I'm unemployed, love games and aliens and I'm very interested
Have worked on a Half-Life 2 Aliens vs Predator mod.. which of course Fox told us to stop working on "or else" would love to work for Gearbox and do it legit, without having to worry about being sued lol

Don't like Fox that much, cuz a lot of other people/companies let fans do game mods, fan movies etc that the fans don't get any money from, but not Fox

AvP3 Fan Game
A group of Russian AvP fans are working on their own AvP game sequel. They're calling it a "game mod" and it uses the Source engine from Half-Life 2. It's all for free, but even then, it might not hold up legally...

http://www.avp3.xgensteam.com/media.html

They set up a Web site (watch out--it's all in Russian) and there's a few preview shots up (a full preview in September). They're always looking for volunteers.

that's from Planet AvP, they will surely be "Foxed"

That's what I don't get about fox...if people are modding an avp3, surely they can see there's a demand for it? I don't blame them for wanting to protect copyright, but if people want an avp so bad they will work on a mod for three, why not make an official one they would gladly buy?

How sweet would it be to get an avp3 (for consoles too), and these awesome aliens games, as well as the neat looking psp game? That would be brilliant.

I'm hoping we might see an AvP3 from Rebellion since it looks like they're getting back on the AvP scene.
