Please don't scold me, I promise I searched the forums and could not find the answer that I was looking for so I am posting this thread.
I am brand new to these forums but I have been following Borderlands since I read the Borderlands cover GI issue. I searched the forums and could not find any talk of the actual size of this game. If this info is available I would like to be able to put it into perspective, like, how big is Pandora compared to say Fallout 3 or Liberty City. Thanks in advance! |

It a huge place because you get a dune buggy and in the game-play videos the guy talking says it's a big place and you'll NEED these dune buggys.

I would say pretty massive, since I think they use computer generated terrain (or maybe not?) the bigger the better though

It keeps getting bigger every time they talk about it, along with gun count, item count, vehicle part count, and general awesomeness. It's like the proverbial fish story, but if told by Haruhi, so the fish actually got bigger retroactively.

Well, I'd say it takes about 1 hour to walk from one end of the map in Fallout 3 to the other (diagonally) So I'm guessing with the fact that they have vehicles, and the fact that there is enough space that they can tote a map randomization system, I'd say at least 6X the map for Fallout 3.

I'm pretty sure the map itself is static, but the things that appear on it, like highwaymen encounters and exploding cacti, are procedurally generated.

I'm sure that's not strictly true, from what i'v read and believe me i'v done allot of that lol, the map is generated as you go through the game, we have been told by randy that the key places such as big towns on the map will always be in the same place and look the same, however everything else will be created as you move round so you can play BL 4/5/1000 times over and the landscape will always be different. with this in mind technically the land scape could be endless, for example if you just piked a direction and kept driving in a straight line it could just keep generating landscape as you went, though i'm sure to stop it being stupid there will be some pre defined edge awsome
