![]() With the success of the Claptrap webisode, I thought I would make my own Claptrap for my desk and share it with you guys. The file is at the end of the post if you would like to print and make it yourself! I recommend going to a place like Fedex Office or Kinkos to get it printed on 11x17 cardstock so that the paper is a little stiffer and can hold up to the folding and gluing. Tools: X-acto Knife (Scissors work, but not nearly as well) Tacky glue (Elmers will work but may not being as strong or dry as fast) Printed out Claptrap Paper template (see end of post for download) Step 1: Cut out all of the pieces as carefully and neatly as possible, the neater you cut now, the cleaner the final toy will be. ![]() Step 2: Score (cut lightly) along the lines that will be folding. This is done by simply dragging the tip of the knife along the line, a straightedge helps a lot with accuracy. This helps guide your folds so that they are straight and clean. ![]() ![]() Step 3: Fold and glue pieces together, attaching white taps to corresponding sides. The body will make a snub pyramid, the wheel is a cube, and the arms just have folding flaps which we'll use to attach them to the body. I suggest gluing/folding in a circle, basically gluing one tab, then gluing the one next to it and so on (instead of gluing randomly). This makes it easier to glue the whole thing together. The wheel folds and glues to the hubs, easy enough. ![]() Step 3: This is probably the most tedious step. Time to attach the arms to the body. use the tabs to glue the arms onto the body. The arms are really flimsy so be sure not to rip them. The easiest method is to put them in place and let them sit because trying to attach both at the same time can get kinda messy and the arms may not come out as straight in the end. You could also have it printed twice and print the arms back to back if you wanted them to be sturdier (thanks dreamingthelife). ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 4: Time to put the wheel on. Only thing you have to be careful about in this step is making sure the wheel is centered and that the spoke/piston is pointing up towards the body. Keeping the wheel centered keeps him balanced. ![]() Here are some more pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I tried to make it as accurate as possible, some detail was thrown out because it looked too technical. Same reason that the grunge/worn away paint was tossed. Roughly took me about 5 hours to design, and about 10-15 minutes to make. The statue/toy sits just under 5 inches tall and is pretty sturdy. Here is the download link: New Link - thanks ennui! All you have to do is put the file on your flash drive and take it to a place that prints 11x17 cardstock to get it printed out. If there is any problem with the design or you need help making it, PM me and I can help you out as best I can! Used the webisode as a reference for the design. DON'T FORGET TO POST PICTURES IF YOU MAKE IT, I WANNA SEE!

haha that's awesome Spaz
I'd suggest printing the arms twice and double siding them for strength for some reason I thought we would have seen a computer case mod of a claptrap before anything else, maybe someone's kid will end up dressed as one for Halloween -dtl |

I hadn't thought about double siding them, that's a pretty good idea, I'll add it to the directions. I added the shoulder "pads" so that the connection between the body and arms had more surface area, but I think doubling up would be even better. It would eliminate the white backs of the arms too.
Guys, remember to post pics up if you make it!
