Exclamation The PC version feels like a PORT

I remember some time ago on IGN (I need to find the video or article) that this was 'Made on the PC for the PC' basically (this isn't a verbatim quote, but you get the idea), but I'm not seeing that AT ALL. This feels like you guys made it for the 360, slapped a mouse cursor in and called it a day. This really comes out in the menu design mainly. The tiny buttons at the top-right of the screen when you open up the main menu that switches between the map, quests, skills and such is pretty silly. The way you have to drop items and compare them with a random button is clearly ported straight from a controller setup. It REALLY doesn't feel at all like a PC game. This is what needs to be patched. Making the menus more user-friendly for PC gamers would be quite appreciated since none of us have any idea what this "optimization" is. I just hope a patch comes out that addresses this specific issue.

Here's an example:
http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/957205...nus_91409.html

After you buy an item you have to take your hand off your mouse, each time, and press enter. How about we not press random keys on the keyboard for each interaction? Also, dropping items isn't as simple as selecting the item and dropping it, oh no. That's too easy, you'll drop your equipped weapon if select something in your inventory and hit the drop key.

This was one of the selling points for me when I heard that it was going to be made for PC gamers, essentially, but what I've seen at launch is not it at all. Did I mention I can't scroll menus with SCROLL-WHEEL?? I have to use either PGUP or PGDN and if that's not bad enough, its inconsistent by design so i have to use the arrow keys in some places, but not in others (like quest dialogs).

Well it seems like some of the stuff they mentioned would be in the PC version isn't there, but it definately looks better than the console versions and having full control over everything is nice. Plus Mouse+Keyboard.

So no no it doesn't feel like a port....not to me. (Agreed though the menu interface is pretty annoying)

The menus don't feel like a port to you? At all? You can't be serious. Also, what "full control" are you referring to?

That like saying Assassins's creed doesn't feel like a port because I can use my mouse and keyboard even though there's no immediately obvious clean option to quit the game like a normal person because consoles just hit power off.

It's definitely a port, and it feels like. I'm pissed the F off, but I have hope that Pitchford will make this right with a patch for us PC peeps.

The interface is horrible for a mouse and keyboard.

All you have to do is compare STALKER or Crysis's interface to this and it's clear as day. Nuff said.

That's all I'm pointing at. The menu is what makes it feel like a port and that's half of the game is the GUI. You're going to be opening up your inventory and comparing guns and etc for 50 levels. That's a LONG time to have to deal with a sub-par menu system. Yeah, everything else looks nice, but this needs to be addressed.

I'm starting to get used to it now, but yeah it's definitely got a lot of symptoms of a port. Far from being a separate interface for the PC version.

For the most part it doesn't bother me, but the fact that a lot of options are only available by editing config files is annoying.

2 thigns that make it feel like a port to me so far

1) menus as described. i dont mind the map/quets buttons but OMG can we please track mroe than 1 quest at a time?? And having to take my hand off the mouse and sell with enter for a speedy invetroy clear is annoying

2) driving, I hate having it follow my aimer, WASD driving is much better for a keyboard (IMHO)

How about the fact that you have to hold the right mouse button instead of having a toggle scope/ironsight button like every other PC FPS...ever?! I don't know why that wasn't a choice for console gamers anyway; a little check box for Scope/Iron Sights toggle on/off that's usually something they have now, same with crouch toggle. The menu stuff I can overlook to an extent.

This ironsight stuff and the lack of UI tweaks are a bit harder to deal with though.

Absolutely 100% Agreed. It's so damn annoying not having a toggle for aiming.
