Default Warning: Don't play with people who save-edit

Okay, since a lot of the save-game info is pretty close to plain-text, there's already a bunch of save-game editors out (no, I won't link you to them, you'll just spoil the game for yourself). Normally, this isn't a big deal, since if someones cheating you can just kick them and go to a different game.

There's a HUGE problem, that I just ran in to. One of my friends hosted a game, and he had edited his character's inventory slots to 30 (we were all pretty low level). For some reason, everyone who joined had their characters inventory slots set to 30 as well, and it stayed that way even after we left the game (!!!). This is a pretty huge and dangerous exploit. Someone could host a game with a hacked character, setting the inventory slots of everyone who joins to 99 slots or maybe 1 slot. I don't know why changes in one character's save file end up screwing up other peoples' characters online, but there's probably all sorts of things the host can do to mess up peoples' characters even beyond screwing up their backpack.

Personally, I won't be playing any public games until this is fixed. Anyone malicious can probably do all sorts of nasty stuff to your save file in a similar way, and it'd suck to lose a character I spent a lot of time on that way.

edit: Just talked to the guy again, apparently he edited a .ini file instead of a save game file to increase his backpack size, which is what screwed everyone up. So far it's happened to multiple people, it isn't just something this one guy did.

what i usually do is after im done playing is copying my save file(s) and put them somewere else as a backup, so incase something bad happens like the bug u mentioned i just quit that game and use my other save file to fix it. but yeah it sucks people are edditing stuff so soon already... i wont be playing with them either if i find out they editted some file.

Maybe that's how I ended up getting 120 inventory slots on one of my characters after playing a multiplayer match... :/

Anyone know where to find the .ini file so I can try undoing the damage?

You can't edit ini files for backpack, its a savefile edit.
If you really want i can tell you how to change your 120 slot backpack to 42 or whatever number.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind knowing how to fix myself. Joined someone's game and now I'm stuck with 500 inventory slots, and I was just happy with my standard two SDU upgrade backpack and the other upgrades as they came.

The game INIs are shared from the host to the connected parties - though it's very concerning they aren't reverted after the game ends.

This game badly needs a closed online game. Where chars are stored on the server and nobody can hack the savefiles.

Another pitfall for the likes of me, casual gamer, limited experience of fidding with the game innards. Sigh.

This is a annoying problem big enough to make me not join games and only host games until they've fixed it. . . But if everyone is going to do this, MP will die quickly.
