Default Poor performance with dynamic shadows?

I'm having some serious problems with performance using shadows and so is a friend of mine. This is my computer:

2x GTX 260 core 216 in SLI

Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz

4gb XMS2 RAM

vista 64bit

The latests beta drivers for the GPU ( tried WHQL as well)

I have the game running @ 60 fps with all max 1680x1050 with no shadows on, even if I force 16x AA I get 60 fps. But when I turn on the shadows it goes down to 30 - 50 and it feels really choppy. It's hard to enjoy it without ANY shadows too so I would be really grateful if someone knows a fix or any word about a patch for this? it's obviously a bug or something because others have this running great with shadows with much worse computers...

Thanks

I have seen this problem too. Quick question, what is the number for the beta drivers you tried?

I ask because I heard people say that the latest beta drivers (I think it is 195.36) showed improved performance in Borderlands, SPECIALLY with SLI.

I'm getting the same, with a single GTX260. The other specs are pretty much the same, except I'm on Windows 7 and my Q6600 is at 3.0GHz.

I'm all good with the same specs (though less clocked Q66)... could be the installation is somehow jiggered?

Performance on my GTX 260 absolute TANKS with shadows on.

They can be the difference between 35 fps and 60 smooth.
60 fps is 16.67 milliseconds.
35 fps is 28.57

Shadows are apparently absurdly expensive to draw in this game, why? They don't exactly look fantastic either, noticeably blocky, so no idea why they are mysteriously so ridiculously performance crushing to render in Borderlands.

Same problem here. My roommate's computer has half my processing power and runs much smoother than me.

Intel Q9400 3ghz
Radeon 4850
5gb RAM
Vista 64
1680x1050

i have the same problem, as i mentioned ages ago.
Windows 7 64bit
Asus P5B
Core 2 duo 2.1Ghz (e6400)
4GB ram (800Mhz)
GeForce 8800GT (BFGTech)

No codecs, other tasks killed, tried recent beta, and older drivers too. Nvidia control panel setting are at default, no exe renamed.
Tried running in 640x480 and everything low (shadows ON) but the same fps. Shutting down shadows gives +20 fps (or even more)
Editing the ini files, helps somewhat but not drastically (+2-3 fps)

I eagarly awaited this game and thought ill be able to run it max (or maybe some less important things turned off) with decent fps....Most of the time its acceptable, but there are 5 (or so) levels where its completley **** (headland mine, treachers landing, descent, New Haven...etc)
According to the game box my system meets the recommended specs. (ye ye, i know its 2.4ghz, but i even tried overclocking my cpu and no difference with 2.5 ghz)

Any of you who have the problem....where does your fps goes down?

ps: i could borrow the xbox360 and play on that since it runs acceptable (apart from the last levels), but no way im gonna play it with controller and without multi (since i dont have gold membership)
ps2: im no arguing that how ****** game you made gearbox.....your game rocks bigtime! For me its the most intersting game in 2009. I just want to find out whether my computer is outdated or just something wrong ("software related")
it would be nice if a gearbox staff would say something about this....."yeah, guys enabling that feature requires monster rig" or "nope, it should run acceptable, even with that on".
